Positive Vibes please.
December 13, 2011, 08:36:32 PM
For my cousin. He's been dealing with a very rare cancer and just got a bunch of bad news this last week.

Here's a little tidbit from his post today, on his CaringBridge site.
Quote
This road is about to get even rougher and its going to be hard for, well...all of you, to read many more of my entries.  I want to open my world as a highly progressed cancer patient to the rest of the world.  I want you to look into my mind and see what I see.  I want to do video journals on youtube but I'm not sure if its the right thing to do with children involved.  There may be a safe way to do it and keep the videos in the right hands.  We shall see...I boast a lot of things that I never follow through with.  Thats why I never say "I promise"...er ah...anymore.  Them kids teach us all lessons on that one, don't they?

I hope you enjoy my entries and don't cry too much.  This is all very fffffff...nn  surreal to me right now.  A part of my head says its not that bad, another part even says I don't have cancer, but too many books...they can't all be lying can they?  Here's a good point to bring up my lesson on hope and stay positive.  I am told to stay positive because people beat cancer alot...out of one million cancer cases only 1.1 to 1.4 (according to my calculations from a book published in 2009), have my cancer.  How many out of a million then...survive my cancer?  Half of me is already dead.

He found out last week that the tumor on his liver takes up a 7 x 13 cm area. And he also just found out that the drug he's been on to fight it, has been useless against the particular cancer he has. Last week was bad for him and his family. I guess he even asked his wife for a separation. That's been worked out, from what I see on FB. Knowing him, he just wanted to make her go away so she and the girls wouldn't have to watch him die. :idk:

Fucking cancer...

Thanks.

I know bad news happens all year, but you just hope that Thanksgiving and Christmas can go by without news of terminal illness, or death.  At least Christmas.

That was really nice. :)

I've been trying to think of something to write, but can't. What my grandma wrote, about being pissed (I believe right below your post, Joan), pretty much says it though. If I could 'yeah that' it, I would.

Wow, really sorry Mel. I have a childhood friend going through cancer. Just got the all clear a few months ago, then it's back as of yesterday. So hard to know what to say sometimes.

One of the officers who comes into our store is dealing with a son (15 years old) going through it, 3 years after kicking it once.

Sorry about your friend, Eileen.

Yeah...I just can't even imagine. I keep wondering why they waited so long to test for mutation. Maybe he said it somewhere in there...I dunno. 8-9 months is a long time to deal with awful side effects from a drug that, turns out, isn't even helping one tiny bit.

Since this post, my cousin has hooked up with the nation's top doc in the GIST (his type of cancer) world. This doc has looked more closely at his tests and done more. What they've found.....NOTHING!

Excerpt from Damian's last entry (this morning)..
Quote
Luckily I got into OHSU and got another CT scan and heres what happened.  My liver looked funny on scans because of irregular blood flow in one particular vein and direction of flow.  Why didn't the other pathologists know about this, which according to Dr. Heinrich, happens sporadically and isn't common but isn't so uncommon either??  Don't ask me!!!  I'll keep my opinions of them assholes to myself but I will say, their yearning desire to punch their timecards out so they could go out and enjoy their lives almost cost me mine.  When I punched my time card in, I had a passion to be the best I could and I had no ones lives in my hands.  I could be so lucky just to be able to punch in and out again but being able to live is a blessing.  Forget them, I've made it to the top doctor in the world for my cancer and with that came the best news and a new lease on life.  Along with the close look at the liver, he was also able to see from the scan that there was no new growth from my cancer since surgery and I was what they call NED for the GIST world.  Its as close as we get to remission...which is why I may have misinformed some when I said cancer free on Facebook.  We never completely beat this cancer but we can keep it at bay for a long time.  And thats as of now.  If they don't find the cure, I will.  I have time now.  And what I do have now is no evidence of disease in my body.  That in my mind, interprates to no evidence of GIST cancer in my body, which in turn translates into no cancer in my body.  So if I want to say cancer free, I am going to basque in this moment.  Its all I wanted since March 31st of last year and its the way I plan on staying.  Prayers were answered, tho not a miracle and rather an error, prayers kept the hope, the love, and the faith alive.  Prayers brought me to a specialist who may have saved my life...it may be a miracle after all.
